Friends of Fledgling Eps. 2 - Caitlin Barasch

On how a good dose of embarrassment "is the secret to any project worth your salt"

Hi Fledgling!

Meet my friend, Caitlin Barasch. We met at Colorado College when I was her “First Year Experience” Mentor as a Senior. I could tell she was hungry to be a writer from the moment I met her, and she proved her determination and prowess when she published her debut novel shortly after graduating with an MFA from NYU. A Novel Obsession is a bold, dark, and twisty rumination on how the stories we tell ourselves run our lives. Now she’s cooking up her next novel and teaching at our alma mater! Here she shares how her first book was born, the particular pitfalls of approaching novel #2, and soooo much more wisdom.

Caitlin Barasch is the author of A Novel Obsession (Dutton), named a Good Morning America "Buzz Pick" and one of Buzzfeed’s “Best Books of 2022.” Born and raised in New York, Caitlin earned her BA from Colorado College and her MFA from New York University. Her work has appeared in over a dozen publications, and been nominated for Best Small Fictions. A former bookseller, Caitlin is currently a creative writing instructor at The Writers Circle and a Visiting Assistant Professor at Colorado College.

Dear listeners, I believe in paying our friends for sharing their wisdom here. So I do! Consider upgrading to paid to listen to the full 40 minute conversation, receive monthly interviews with industry professionals, and to support our work.
